Willard Bond 1926-2012, created a new style of modern maritime art, particularly capturing the thrill and action of America's Cup 12 Meter yacht racing. He combined the classic traditions of painting historically accurate sailing ships with the vitality of his own expressionist, gestural work. The energy of these magnificent racing sailboats, with their crews battling the primal forces of water and wind, comes alive on his canvases. The sailors themselves would tell him “You really paint it the way it is out there.”
This is a collection of some of Bond's most iconic marine Watercolor and Oil paintings, along with work that has never been previously published. Included is an examination of his early work as a New York ceramic muralist and Abstract Expressionist painter, and the dramatic 20th Century history and life experiences that influenced his seventy-year art career.
